How an Independent Distributor Added $1.46M Beyond Its Direct Licensing

Blog / Case Study
Direct deals are only part of the market. The channels you can't reach yourself, and the territories you don't have time for, are where catalogs leave money on the table.
This is the story of a US independent distributor with a documentary-led catalog of 500+ titles. It already licenses titles directly to channels like Tubi and Amazon Prime Video, and it has worked with Filmhub since 2021. Here is what Filmhub added on top of those deals:
- $1.46M in gross sales through Filmhub
- Access to YouTube Movies & TV, a channel the distributor could not license to directly
- Reach across 99 channels in 156 countries
- No conflict with the distributor's own deals
The challenge
The distributor had a strong catalog and solid direct relationships. But every new channel means a new buyer, a new contract, new delivery specs, and new reporting. A small team can only manage so many.
The biggest gap was YouTube Movies & TV. The channel licenses AVOD and SVOD content directly from only a select few content providers, and the distributor was not one of them.
The solution
The distributor kept selling to its direct-deal channels and turned those channels off in Filmhub, title by title. Filmhub licensed the catalog everywhere else.
Access to YouTube Movies & TV
Filmhub is one of a select few content providers with a direct YouTube Movies & TV deal, because of the sophistication of its distribution technology. Apple works the same way, with select approved encoding partners like Filmhub.
No channel conflict
- 477 of 519 Active titles are turned off for Filmhub on Tubi
- 252 of 519 Active titles are turned off for Filmhub on Amazon Prime Video
- Tubi and Amazon together made up just 2.7% of the distributor's Filmhub sales, all from titles outside its direct deals

Filmhub sold alongside the distributor's direct deals, never against them.
Speed to license
Titles were licensed a median of 8.7 days after passing Filmhub's quality check. The faster a title goes live, the sooner it earns.

Why it works for distributors
Keep your direct deals. Turn off any channel you already license, title by title. Filmhub stays out of those deals.
Reach channels you can't. Filmhub's technology makes it one of a select few direct YouTube Movies & TV partners.
Fill the gaps. Filmhub places your catalog on the channels and territories you don't have the bandwidth to reach.
Recap
- Keep the direct deals you've built
- Turn those channels off in Filmhub, title by title
- Let Filmhub open the channels you can't reach, starting with YouTube Movies & TV
- Earn across 99 channels and 156 countries with one delivery
Final word: Direct deals and Filmhub work best together. You keep the relationships you've built, and Filmhub adds revenue everywhere else.
